The Bolsheviks
The Russian Social Democratic Workers Party of Bolsheviks had never known any leader but Lenin. Lenin created the Bolsheviks, starting with a little group of twenty-two Russians who met in Geneva in 1904, including Lenin, his wife, and his sister. Their goal was keeping alive Lenin's side of the controversy which had split the Russian Marxist movement in the previous year.
In 1905 Lenin had to endure the frustration of a Russian Revolution that began without him and was not under his influence. The leader was Trotsky. Trotsky was nine years younger than Lenin, a better speaker and a more creative thinker, Trotsky is the only man in the Bolshevik Revolution whose stature approaches that of Lenin. Even so, Trotsky did not, and could not, olay any special role in the October Revolution. He merely carried out the will of the respective Party authorities, who guided his every step. One of Lenin's most trusted agents was Joseph Stalin. Lenin and Stalin first met in December 1905 at the Bolshevik Conference in Tammerfors, Finland.
"From beginning to end the october insurrection was inspired by the Central Committee of the Party, with Lenin at its head."
